Dr. John V. DuronvilleConsulting Nephrologist

Dr. John V. Duronville is a clinical nephrologist in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, at Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina, USA.

He earned his BA in Religion with a concentration in African and Africana Studies from Haverford College, during which he visited Ghana in 2006 and 2007. He completed his medical degree with a focus in Global Health at the George Washington University School of Medicine, followed by a nephrology fellowship at Duke University Hospital.

His global health work includes HIV/AIDS education for schoolchildren in Limbe, Cameroon; service at the HIV/AIDS Department of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland; a medical mission in Thomonde, Haiti; and clinical work in Quito, Ecuador. He has a strong interest in the social determinants of health and their role in health disparities.

Clinically, Dr. Duronville specializes in home dialysis modalities—peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis—for patients with end-stage kidney disease, and in expanding the use of kidney biopsies for diagnosis and management. Currently based in Accra, Ghana, Dr. Duronville is now a consultant Nephrologist with Sahel Health.
